Disease

Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is an uncommon disorder characterized by abnormal cellular growth (cluster of cells   in the walls of medium and large arteries. This abnormal cellular growth may lead to a beaded appearance of the affected artery and narrowing in some cases.

Most common arteries include carotid arteries, and renal artery. FMD also affects arteries of brain, abdomen, arms and legs.

Types of fibromuscular dysplasia 

• Tunica intima (the inside layer)
• Tunica media (the middle layer)
• Adventitia (the outside layer)

Causes

The causes of FMD are still unknown and are the focus of considerable research. The disease most likely has multiple underlying causes. Some of the factors that may play a role include: 

• Genetics: Familial (inherited) history of FMD
• Hormonal influences: post menopausal women.
• Internal mechanical stress, trauma or stress to the artery walls.

Loss of oxygen supply to the blood vessel wall: This occurs when the tiny blood vessels in the artery walls that supply them with oxygenated blood get blocked by fibrous lesions due tobacco and toxic medications

Risk Factors 
Women aged between 25 to 50 years are prone to get FMD  than the men

• Smoking
• Diabetes
• Hypertension
• High cholesterol

Symptoms

Many people with FMD do not have any symptoms, but symptoms can occur if the narrowing is severe enough to restrict blood flow through the affected artery.

FMD of the carotid artery 

1. Headaches
2. Ringing or “swishing” noise in the ears
3. Lightheadedness.
4. Sudden neck pain
5. Stroke or a transient ischemic attack (TIA).
6. Aneurysms
7. Facial numbness

FMD of the renal arteries 

• High blood pressure
• Decreased kidney function (renal insufficiency)
• Chronic renal failure

FMD of abdominal arteries 

• Weight loss
• Abdominal pain after eating

FMD of arms and legs  arteries 

• Pain in the limbs
• Weakness in the limbs
• Cold limbs
• Change in color of skin

Homoeopathy Treatment

HOMOEO LIFE PLUS

Arnica is generally prescribed for pain, tenderness, and stiffness. Take one dose of Arnica 30x or 15c, as directed on the product label, three times daily for up to three days. Arnica cream or gel can also be used topically. Follow the directions on the product label.

Bryonia helps ease pain that increases with movement and is better when resting. It also helps with the constipation. Take one dose of Bryonia 30x or 15c three times daily for up to three days.

Hypericum is useful for the unbearable prickly pain that radiates along nerve pathways, is worse with movement, and worse when touched. This remedy is especially effective for pain in the extremities. Take one dose of Hypericum 12x, 6x, 6c, or 3c three times daily for up to three days.

Rhus toxicodendron is for the individual who feels better after moving around. Take one dose of Rhus toxicodendron 30x or 9c three times daily for up to three days.
